I. Describe the Assignment and Goals
This Project was for community engagement and we had to do a project for H.A.R.F.(Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation). We were given two options to either make a video to present to kids talking about safety around Dogs and how to treat them or to create or design a social media account for H.A.R.F. Some of my friends and I wanted to create a Dog Cart on the other hand. The reasoning for this was because one of the dogs they had brought into class was named Stewie who was missing his two front legs and he had no cart. We asked if we could do this and they let us so that's what we did. We had to come up with and idea and then materials, a sketch, then actually making the cart in our engineering lab, then finally testing it.
II. Why did you choose this Project for your Portfolio
This was probably one of the biggest projects we have done for the year and not just because the time it took and all the effort but the amount of fun it was. Getting to design everything and getting to make it ourselves on campus and also getting to do this for an amazing dog who unfortunately was missing his front legs was so much fun.
III. How it Represents a 21st Century Skill
This project represents Communication Skills and also Problem Solving. We had to communicate the whole way through with our group members, the teacher, the engineering teacher to get times to use his classroom and then our other teachers so they would lets us go and work on it during class periods at times and finally H.A.R.F. Themselves.
IV. How it shows my Current Growth
This sample demonstrates my current growth because I showed to myself that I can work on something for a long period of time with a group and communicate the whole way through and being able to take in other peoples ideas that they have.
V. Area of Opportunity for New Growth
Next time I would like to try and work on a different design plan and also time management. I would also work on Communication because I feel like there is always room for improvement.
